REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. - David Hargett, director of the U.S. Army Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity and Aviation and Missile Commander Maj. Gen. Tom O’Connor, give U.S. Army Materiel Command Executive Deputy to the Commanding General Marion Whicker a tour of USATA headquarters, Aug. 14. One of the tour highlights was a 112,000-pound deadweight force machine. Each stainless-steel, weighted platter is calibrated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The calibration of all scales throughout the U.S. Army trace back to this force machine at USATA. During her visit, Whicker also received a brief overview of USATA and its enterprise-wide calibration mission and participated in hands-on demonstrations in several of the labs.
