iles Owen, a metrologist with the Army Primary Standards Laboratory, counts aerosol particles deposited onto a silicon wafer in the APSL clean room. The measurement is part of a research project to calibrate particle counters using large aerosol particles in the size range of bacteria, with application to environmental monitors and biological defense sensors.
