REDSTONE ARSENAL, Alabama –
REDSTONE ARSENAL, Alabama—Last year, the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command G-4 Protection and Property Division launched an online application to centralize the organization’s vehicle management process.
The application was launched Feb. 4, 2020. The development of the Virtual Motor Pool, application was a joint effort of the G-4 staff and the AMCOM Information Technology Directorate.
The application is located on AMCOM’s sharepoint command information portal- https://amcom.aep.army.mil/vmp/default.aspx.
“The VMP provides visibility of available motor pool resources across the AMCOM Headquarters, allowing individuals to utilize vehicles across organizational lines when some vehicles would otherwise not be in use,” said AMCOM G-4 Director Craig Northridge.”
Garfield Teixeira, VMP lead, provided insight into the VMP and its benefits to AMCOM.
“The VMP was designed to be user friendly so the command can have maximum usage of the vehicles in our possession,” sad Teixeira. “We encourage employees to utilize the VPN and provide feedback for us to review and possibly implement if it will improve the app.”
Using the VMP, an AMCOM employee can reserve a government vehicle through the application, then, pick up the keys and logbook from the vehicle manger listed on the reservation.
The application was launched prior to the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A month after the application launched most employees started teleworking and most travel operations came to a halt.
According to Teixeria, no one has been using the VMP because majority of the workforce is still working from home.
“I believe the application will be a success when everyone returns to work,” said Teixeira.
Individuals who need a government vehicle for AMCOM business should be sure their Redstone Arsenal Operator Qualification Cards are up to date. To obtain or update an operator card, complete the RSA Form 58-1, available for downloading at https://amcom.aep.army.mil/G4/Log/default.aspx.
