REDSTONE ARSENAL, AL –
Don Nitti, who has served as the acting director of the AMCOM Logistics Center (ALC) since July 2018, was appointed as a member of the Senior Executive Service and named the Executive Director of ALC during a ceremony, Thursday.
AMCOM Commander, Maj. Gen. Doug Gabram, presided over the appointment ceremony held in the Bob Jones Auditorium.
“I am proud and honored to host this ceremony as we welcome Don Nitti into the Army Senior Executive Service Corps and install him as the permanent executive director of the AMCOM Logistics Center,” Gabram said. “Don Nitti is an outstanding leader who accomplished great things throughout both his Army and civilian careers. Selection to the Army Senior Executive Service is a rare honor, bestowed only on our best and brightest.”
Nitti retired from the Army in 2015. His last assignment was serving as the AMCOM Chief of Staff. He started his civilian career that same year, serving as AMCOM Director of Field Support. In that position, Nitti was responsible for the Aviation and Missile National Maintenance Program. He expanded the organization’s ability to repair parts and – over the course of a single year – his directorate repaired more than 5,000 parts, directly improving readiness.
Nitti also developed the AMCOM Aviation Rapid Deployment Equipment Program, which uses excess equipment to meet Army needs at strategic locations around the world. Since 2017, more than 600 pieces of equipment have been prepositioned to meet Army requirements.
“An SES is supposed to be exceptional at leading change, leading people, saving the Army money, building teams and getting results,” Gabram said during his remarks. “Don does all of these things… and he does them effortlessly…. He is a phenomenal leader who can see around corners and develop solutions for success. He does not hesitate in the face of change and has the courage to be an advocate for creativity and independent thinking.”
As the ALC Executive Director, Nitti is responsible for 1,700 government civilian employees and 2,500 contract employees who provide a wide range of life-cycle logistics support for Army aviation and missile systems, including supply-chain management, depot workloading, acquisition logistics and equipment maintenance worldwide.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Nitti thanked family, friends, mentors, bosses, peers, coworkers and subordinate who taught, guided and mentored him.
“I recognize that this appointment today is not an individual achievement that has little to do with me and everything to do with the people who have been around me,” Nitti said.
Nitti said a special thank you to the employees of the AMCOM Logistics Center, both present and past.
“As honored as I am to be appointed to the Senior Executive Service, I am significantly more honored to have the opportunity to lead the ALC,” Nitti said. “I was the recipient of your hard work for a long time – from the flight line of Fort Hood, [Texas], to the airfields of Iraq, long before I knew what it took to provision, procure, overhaul, manage or ship repair parts. I just knew they showed up when I needed them. Over the past nine years, you have shown me what it takes. And, I have seen first-hand your incredible capabilities, your technical skills and your total dedication to the Soldiers and the Army mission.”
“To each of you, I say ‘thank you’.” And, I guarantee my total commitment to providing you with the absolute best leadership I am capable of,” Nitti said. “Together, we will continue the long tradition of excellence within the AMCOM Logistics Center, while never losing sight of the fact that our sole mission is to successfully enable our Aviation and Missile Soldiers to fight and win our Nation’s wars.”
