AMCOM team wins antiterrorism award

By Miles Brown, AMCOM Public Affairs Specialist U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Command

The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command’s Antiterrorism team earned top large-unit honors at the 2020 Army Worldwide Anti-terrorism (AT) training seminar, Feb. 24-28. Headquarters Department of the Army hosted the 18th annual seminar at the Shades of Green hotel.

Antiterrorism experts and security professionals from across the Army gathered at the seminar which provides an opportunity to assess the status of Army antiterrorism efforts and address emerging issues.

The Army’s AT program protects personnel, information, property, and facilities against acts of terrorism. As the executive agent for antiterrorism, the U.S. Army’s Office of the Provost Marshall General hosts the seminar. Goals during the seminar are to educate and develop antiterrorism professionals, build synergy for antiterrorism strategic goals, and involve antiterrorism staff and leaders in solving key issues impacting the program.

“The AMCOM Antiterrorism team was selected as the ‘Best Large Unit’ antiterrorism program in the Army – one of six competitive categories awarded at the event,” said Bill Marrero, AMCOM Protection and Property Division chief. “The team’s tireless efforts to sustain and improve readiness, increase awareness and safeguard the workforce, information and facilities were duly acknowledged with this award.”

The AMCOM AT team provides assistance to more than 25 AMCOM directorates and units at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; Corpus Christi Army Depot, Texas; Letterkenny Army Depot, Pennsylvania; and Aviation Command Logistics Center, Fort Rucker, Alabama.

“The AMCOM team’s solid foundation of, professionalism, attention to detail, and its partnership with U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC), Installation Management Command and other agencies contributed to our success,” said AMCOM Commanding General Maj. Gen. Todd Royar.

As a result of the team’s efforts, AMCOM received an exceptional rating for best practices during AMC’s FY19 triennial assessment.

“More importantly, AMCOM’s expertise and management of the AT program resulted in zero incidents and the highest level of protection for our people, programs and facilities,” said Royar.

According to U.S. Army’s Office of the Provost Marshall General, terrorism is an enduring, persistent, worldwide threat to our Nation and our forces. Army forces must be capable of deterring, preventing, and defending against the full range of terrorist tactics. The seminar outputs support actions to strengthen capabilities and resolve to defend against terrorist threats.

The AMCOM AT program includes team members from multiple disciplines to include: antiterrorism, continuity of operations, cyber security, constructions projects, domestic threat, emergency management, intelligence threat, operations security, personally identifiable information and physical security.
