Resumes stack up at AMCOM job fair

By AMCOM Public Affairs

The Aviation and Missile Command’s Human Resources team met with more than 1,200 job seekers Thursday at the AMCOM Job Fair.

This is the first time AMCOM has hosted a job fair in more than a decade, AMCOM Human Resources specialist Alysia Greer said. AMCOM Human Resources hosted the job fair. They were joined by hiring managers from the Garrison; Redstone Test Center; Army Contracting Command-Redstone; the AMCOM Logistics Center; the Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Activity; the Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center; AMCOM Intelligence and Security; AMCOM Information Management and Technology; and AMCOM Resource Management.

Candidates queued up as early as 6:30 a.m. to attend the job fair that opened at 8. More than 80 hiring managers and other employees worked with the 1,261 job seekers who attended the half-day job fair, which was open to all veterans, recent graduates and people with disabilities.

“We exceeded our expectations for the turnout at the job fair,” Greer said. “AMCOM has hundreds of vacancies that we are hoping to fill. Through the job fair, we are utilizing certain hiring authorities to expedite the hiring process.”

Many of the jobs seekers gave Greer and the hiring managers positive feedback about the event.

“The job seekers I spoke to were very appreciative of the event itself,” said Louis McMillian, the deputy for AMCOM’s Intelligence and Security Directorate, who was there recruiting to fill vacancies in his directorate. “They were impressed by the willingness of the recruiters to sit down with them and address the functional responsibilities of each representative organization. Those conversations enabled them to determine if a particular career path was in their interest or not.”

Greer said that despite the long lines, the candidates were positive and hopeful throughout every step of the process.

“I received several comments,” she said. “One from a recent graduate who stated, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to meet face-to-face with managers,’ and another who said, “Thank you for the feedback on how to improve my resume.’”

Greer said the hiring managers were very pleased with the candidates who attended. One organization in particular will start interviews immediately, but it will take time to process and evaluate the overall success of the job fair.

“I’m very happy with the outcome of the job fair,” McMillian said. “I have a whole stack of resumes to review now.”
